I’m a Denver, Colorado, native whose life took a global turn when I fell for a Japanese woman while backpacking in Germany. What started as a seven-year pen-pal romance turned into marriage when she moved to Denver. After a decade in HR for the U.S. government and earning my doctorate, we packed up with our two boys and made Tokyo home…27 years and counting. Now, I run FocusCore Group, an executive recruitment and leadership development firm, helping businesses thrive in Japan. Along the way, I’ve written six books, logged countless marathon miles, and found a deep passion for the mandolin and ukulele.
“Living in Japan has taught me that patience, respect, and craftsmanship create true mastery.”
