Japan is a train lover’s paradise. The extensive network will take you in all directions across the country, but in terms of charm, I think Enoden takes the cake.
In addition to the beautiful coastline views you get to enjoy while traveling between Kamakura and Fujisawa in Kanagawa Prefecture, the train itself is adorable. The single-line railway even briefly turns into a streetcar running alongside cars and local supermarkets.
Enoden has been operating for over 100 years, making it one of Japan’s oldest railways. If you’re lucky, you will get to ride one of the older models with wooden floorboards and plenty of retro details.
