Hiroshima: A symbol of peace, reflection, remembrance and hope

Hiroshima is one of the most visited cities in Japan because of its tragic history, but also because of its vibrant rebirth. The city is a testament to the strength of the Japanese spirit to never give up. If you are interested in how Japanese people respect their lost loved ones and ancestors, a visit to Hiroshima is a great way to reflect, ponder and appreciate the life we have now.

If you can time your visit, I recommend being here on August 6th. The day the world’s first ever atomic bomb was dropped in 1945 is now a powerful reminder of the lasting impacts of war and opportunity to call for world peace. The day features speeches and prayers, as well as a meaningful ceremony in the evening called toronagashi where paper lanterns carrying messages of peace are released down the river near the Hiroshima Peace Memorial, commonly known as the A-Bomb Dome.
