Shimokitazawa is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Tokyo. In a nutshell, I would say it perfectly contrasts the (sometimes a little too intense) liveliness of Shibuya or Shinjuku, as it embodies a very chill and laid-back vibe. Of course, that’s not to say it lacks character. Specialty coffee shops (some of the best I’ve found), retro bars and numerous vintage stores (high-end to second-hand) occupy all corners of this hip neighborhood.
