Natalie Rojas Ishimoto

Portrait of Natalie Rojas Ishimoto, a Japanese-Dominican writer with deep ties to Japan. Born in Fukuoka and now based in New York, Natalie shares her love for Japan's culture, nature, and traditions through her writing.

Hi, my name is Natalie. I’m a Japanese-Dominican, born in Fukuoka Prefecture and currently living in New York. My heart is deeply connected to Japan—it’s my furusato, the place I call home. I’m constantly inspired by the warmth of its people, its incredible food, and its rich traditions.

I especially love visiting shrines and temples, and finding peaceful moments surrounded by nature. These aspects of Japanese life mean so much to me, and I love sharing them with first-time visitors—hoping they feel the same sense of wonder and connection I do each time I return.

“Visit Japan in autumn, my favorite season. The fall colors surrounding centuries-old shrines create a truly stunning view.”
