Asakusa is a well-known tourist destination in Tokyo, and a fantastic place for purchasing authentic Japanese products. Many of the shops sell edo komono—traditional crafts that date back to the Edo Period (1603 – 1868).
One of my favorite shops is Sukeroku, which was founded in 1866. They specialize in adorable Japanese toys all made by hand, whose craftsmanship has been carefully passed down generation to generation. Intricately and masterfully built, each toy is full of character that makes for the perfect keepsake or souvenir.
