Bizen Osafune Sword Museum, located in Setouchi City (Okayama Prefecture) is a must-visit for sword enthusiasts and history buffs. Just a 30-minute train ride from Okayama Station to Osafune Station, the museum is just a quick 10-minute drive from there.

At the museum, you can explore the craft village, where skilled artisans meticulously work on various parts of traditional Japanese swords, or head straight into the museum to admire centuries-old blades on display. The collection includes exquisite examples of swords and knives, offering a fascinating and rare glimpse into the art of Japanese sword-making that began prospering in the local area from the Kamakura Period (1185 – 1333).
One of the most unique aspects of visiting Okayama is the chance to witness the full sword-making process in action. You can even commission a custom-made sword from one of the many swordsmiths who continue to practice the ancient craft, making Okayama home to the largest community of sword artisans left in Japan.
