A sweet day in Kamakura: Exploring traditional Japanese treats

During the holidays, I always set aside a day to wander around Kamakura and indulge in some of my favorite traditional Japanese sweets.

As you stroll along the main Komachi shopping street outside the station’s East Exit, you’ll encounter an impressive selection of shops selling everything from designer hats and handcrafted chopsticks to trendy clothing and delicious street food.

One of my must-haves is osenbei (rice crackers), which are grilled on-site and slathered in savory soy sauce. I also love visiting Mameya, my go-to shop for bean confectionery, where you can find over 70 varieties ranging from salty to citrus flavors.
