Trying something creative is a great way to help you unwind. Artbar in Daikanyama (they have many other branches) offers various classes for artists of all levels to create original paintings while sipping on delicious wine in a relaxed and welcoming environment. This isn’t your typical art class–yes, it’s better.

Founded by Nicole Ciliberti in 2016, Artbar is staffed by talented instructors who lead students through a typically two-hour lesson (in English or Japanese) during which they complete an acrylic painting to take home. The instructors go through the painting step by step with you and share insightful knowledge about simple techniques. All supplies are provided, from brushes to the canvas, as well as aprons to keep clothing protected. Best of all, your fee (that can range depending on the specific event you sign up for) also includes unlimited red, white or sparkling wine and snacks. Coffee, tea, juice and water are also provided for those wishing to skip on the alcohol or those underage.

Not an artist? Don’t worry–the best part about Artbar is the no-pressure environment. Students are encouraged to make the painting their own instead of worrying about matching the instructor’s work exactly. Perfection isn’t the goal…fun is! I love looking around the studio and seeing the unique elements each student adds to their painting.

This was my third time taking a class at Artbar and it certainly won’t be my last. Be sure to sign up for a class online or over the phone to exercise and flex your creative muscles!
