Zushi: The closest natural beach from Tokyo

Author Avatar Gen Shiraishi

Under an hour from Tokyo by train, Zushi Beach is a great family-friendly spot known for its shallow waters and quiet waves.

Summer fun near Tokyo

Zushi Beach may not have the crystal-clear waters of Okinawa or Hawaii, but it’s a great place to soak up the summer atmosphere.

A nice perk is the free public showers, available during the summer season at designated times. If you’re looking for a beach near Tokyo, Zushi is a great choice — just keep your expectations modest!

To keep the beach family-friendly, several rules are enforced during the summer season. Alcohol, BBQs, exposed tattoos, and loudspeakers are prohibited during beach operating hours. Umi no Ie beach houses, of which there are many, offer food and drinks (including alcohol), as well as toilets, lockers, and beach gear rentals.

Getting there

Zushi Beach is about a 15-minute walk from Zushi Station, served by the Yokosuka and Shonan-Shinjuku lines. It’s also within walking distance of Zushi-Hayama Station on the Keikyu Zushi Line.
