Experience Tokyo’s eclectic neighborhoods as a pedestrian

Although I have never lived in Tokyo, I love taking day trips there. Walking around places like Omotesando and Harajuku offers great dining at international and trendy cafes, as well as fun people-watching and window-shopping opportunities.

I also fell in love with walking around Ginza, especially on weekends when the streets are closed to vehicles. This occurrence is adorably called hokousha tengoku, which translates to “pedestrian paradise”, and that’s exactly right. People are free to roam around the streets, drink, eat, mingle, etc. without having to worry about cars–it doesn’t get much better than that for pedestrians!

Although not technically in Tokyo, Yokohama is a great day-trip destination if you have some time to spare. It’s only about 30 minutes from Tokyo Station by train, but offers a completely different vibe with ocean views, plenty of open areas and parks, Chinatown that foodies won’t want to miss, Cup Noodles Museum, and so much more!
