You can’t go wrong with Japanese candy. Classic flavor combinations to wacky and unexpected varieties, it’s a total adventure for the palette and mind.
Some of the quirkiest snacks I’ve come across are umeboshi (sour plum) candy, kombu (pickled kelp) slices, candied squids, and wasabi KitKat. You can also find DIY candy kits (instructions included) where you mix and mold the given ingredients into things like sushi-shaped candy or fruit-flavored, animal-shaped gummies–these make for fun souvenirs too!
In addition to the taste though, I personally adore the creative packaging of Japanese snacks that can range from traditional to futuristic.
