Whether a manga kissa qualifies as a lodging facility is debatable, but it’s absolutely an option (and deep-dive into Japanese culture).
Originally designed as an establishment for reading Japanese comic books in a quiet setting, manga kissa have evolved into multi-functional spaces. You can typically choose between an open chair in a common area, or a private booth–either way you’re equipped with a desktop, desk and seating.
Free Wi-Fi, movies, console games, printers, unlimited soft drinks, paid showers, vending machines, etc. are just some of the plethora of amenities and services you may find in addition to an extensive manga collection (although that goes without saying).
The private booth typically includes a pretty comfortable flatbed, which makes it a budget-friendly alternative to hotels. Additional amenities like blankets, indoor slippers, and phone chargers are commonly provided for free as well, which adds to the level of comfort.
For one night, you can expect prices to range from around 2,000 to 3,000 yen.
