Japanese summers are the best–well, except for the humidity! I love the sounds of crickets and cicadas, the gentle ring of wind chimes, and baseball games on TV. Sitting on a tatami floor with a cold beer and edamame (salted beans)…it’s pure bliss!
And of course, you can’t miss the omatsuri. These summer festivals come in a range of styles depending on the region but usually involve delicious street food like yakisoba (stir-fried noodles) and okonomiyaki (Japanese savory pancake) as well as traditional music and a very wholesome community atmosphere.
