Calling for help in Japan: Remember 119

If there’s a fire or medical emergency, call 119. Although English assistance is becoming more integrated, it will help immensely if you can say your address in Japanese and remember the words “kaji (fire)” and “kyukyusha (ambulance)” so that the staff can identify the type of situation at the very least.

Note that transportation of patients by ambulance is free in Japan, but of course, you will need to cover any uninsured medical costs once you arrive at the hospital.

For all other crime-related reports, call the police at 110.
