Hi! I’m Sean, originally from the Washington, DC metro area, and I moved to Japan in 2019 as an ALT. Over the past six years, I’ve lived in rural Aichi, the bustling center of Fukuoka, and now the “not-so-inaka” but “definitely-not-tokai” city of Tokushima. Not to mention plenty of road trips in between! I’m excited to share stories about the history, culture, and cuisine of Kansai, Chugoku, Kyushu, and Shikoku—not just beloved cities like Kyoto, but also places that are lesser known to international readers.
“What I love about Japan is how fun it is to get around! Whether by train, bus, or boat, traveling from one region to another always feels like an adventure—never a chore. Japan’s public transit is world-famous for a reason, but I also enjoy road trips along its sophisticated highways and gorgeous mountain roads.”
